photograph of rock art in gold butte national monument near mesquite nevada

Anthropomorph figures and bighorn sheep adorn a pictograph panel high on a cliff in southern Nevada’s Gold Butte National Monument. To capture this image, I had to shimmy out on a ledge and brace myself against the wind of an incoming rain squall. I can’t help but think that since this was originally chipped into the rock that some rock must have fallen away–I would have felt much more secure if I had been roped in!
