Black Saddlebags

This is the Black Saddlebags Dragonfly, Tramea lacerata. These individuals were focused on an early fall day at a local wildlife area in western Riverside County, California. This species is an excellent predator of one of my most hated enemies: mosquitoes. As a result, they are often found near stagnant water, where their prey is also found.
