The Superstitions are the quintessential southwestern mountains; rising several thousand feet out of the floor of the Sonoran Desert, they are the stuff Western movies are made of. They are the mountains where cattle thieves hide out from the Sherriff's Posse, and where pioneers face all the challenges the desert has to throw at them. The range is quite compact, and its proximity to Phoenix makes it easy to visit. The western flank of the Superstitions (images 194-196 below) lights up very nicely as the sun sets (read more about this wonderful area here). In images 245-246, Weaver's Needle is pictured, and is located in the southern part of the range; read more about my Weaver's Needle photos here.
