125°F. That’s about all there is to say about this particular July evening in Mojave Trails National Monument. The thermometer on my dashboard climbed all afternoon as I explored the backcountry roads in this lovely corner of southern California, finally peaking at a brain-melting number. While it’s probably an overestimate of the actual number, it was hot none the less. Still, as the sun set, it was great to walk around the desert for a bit, exploring the sand and mesquite bushes.
